Have you heard this about Chiropractic care before?
Remember that TV show Mythbusters?
If you don’t, two bearded special effects experts from Hollywood will spend their time ‘debunking’ myths from around the globe by putting them to the test in a whole host of wacky experiments.
But there’s one myth I never saw them bust…
The myth that Chiropractic care is DANGEROUS!
I get it; if your only experience of Chiropractic is ‘back cracking’ videos on social media, it might seem more spine-chilling than a marathon of horror movies in the middle of the night.
The good news is, just like myths about sea monsters and pots of gold, this one isn't based in reality.
Still, let's crack open the crypt of Chiropractic Myths and shed some light on the truth.
Myth #1: Once You Start, You Can't Stop
This might be true for Pringles or a binge-worthy series on Netflix, but it's not the case for chiropractic care.
Many people choose maintenance care because they appreciate the benefits of continuous care, just like maintaining your yoga/pilates/gym routine once you are flexible/strong/fit. Why would you ever stop giving a plant water? When does the plant stop growing?
Myth #2: Chiropractic Care is Only for Adults
Are children immune to falls, injuries, or poor posture? We wish!
While their bodies are remarkably flexible and resilient, little ones can still benefit from Chiropractic care. Because kids are so flexible and supple, they need more support.
Babies & Children have been shown to experience compelling results from a trip to the Chiropractor, not just to “quickly” fix that sleepless night, fever or cough. Remember, birth trauma from an assisted delivery is one of the most significant traumas we can experience. We lose our baby teeth and get our adult teeth; still, we go to the dentist with our baby teeth to prevent future damage. When do we lose our “baby spine”? Never.
In Fact, starting good spinal health habits early might save them from future back aches and pains.
And not just humans can benefit, but that’s a topic for another day…
Myth #3: Chiropractic Care is Dangerous
Oh, the horror! This myth is so far from the truth; it's almost funny.
In fact, Chiropractic care is one of the safest forms of healthcare out there.
Of course, it involves a degree of risk, as with any health procedure, but it's minimal.
And unlike many medical treatments, which only treat the symptoms locally and negatively affect the whole body.
Chiropractic care is positively affecting the whole body and not only makes you feel well but allows you to instantly heal well.
Myth #4: Chiropractors Aren't "Real" Doctors
Well, this is a myth that needs a serious adjustment! (Pun intended.)
Chiropractors undergo rigorous education and training, often comparable to medical doctors.
Our Chiropractors studied In South Africa. On average, you have hundreds of applications per year, approximately a hundred get chosen for an interview, and about only 40 students get chosen on merit to start their first year. Other than most universities where you become a doctor on a “lucky-draw” system, who wants to go to a doctor who won his place compared to a doctor who is chosen because they had to work hard for their position?
The main difference lies in our philosophy, approach and art. Chiropractors look at the cause, often known as Doctors of Cause, not just the symptoms. We look at the whole person, not just the point of pain. We are wellness experts; we not only study sickness and disease but what will get and keep you healthy to have a full life with vitality.
By now, you might be chuckling at these myths or feeling a little sheepish because you believed one or two. No judgment here – these tales can be pretty persuasive, especially when whispered in hushed tones around a campfire!
But remember, we're always here to help bust any myth you've heard or answer any question that may be niggling at you.
