Infertility is defined as the inability to get pregnant after a year of unprotected sex. Roughly 1 in every 10 women in the Netherlands have difficulty falling pregnant and receive medical intervention. This is a fairly common condition and one that truly has devastating effects on the couple trying to get pregnant.
In women, the common causes of infertility include: Hormonal issues, cervical problems, damaged fallopian tubes, and uterine causes. Male infertility can be caused by low sperm production, abnormal sperm function or blockages that prevent the delivery of sperm. Illnesses, injuries, chronic health problems, lifestyle choices and other factors may contribute to male infertility.
There are various medical interventions to assist with falling pregnant. Fertility drugs are a common approach but carry with them a host of possible long-term side effects, including an increased risk of cancer. Other forms of treatment include surgery, artificial insemination, in vitro fertilisation, egg donation, as well as a few other lesser-known therapies.
Chiropractic care is possibly the least known approach for someone struggling to become pregnant. Most people are unaware of the nervous system’s role in becoming pregnant and how that relates to chiropractic care.
Pregnancy can only occur when many bodily functions work in harmony. The female’s reproductive system has to be working properly for pregnancy first to occur and then for the foetus to be carried to full term. Thus a healthy reproductive system working under the nervous system’s direction.
The brain controls and coordinates all functions in the human body. In the same manner, in which the brain regulates the heart or any other organ, it also regulates the reproductive system. Messages are sent from the brain, down the spinal column, and out through spinal nerves to the organs, tissues and cells. This communication between the brain and body is critical for proper function. When communication is clear the tissues have their greatest potential to function properly.
However, conditions like spinal subluxations can cause a decrease in communication between the brain and the tissues of the reproductive system, possibly resulting in infertility. Without proper nerve communication, the reproductive system cannot function normally on its own.
A Chiropractic vertebral subluxation is a misalignment in the spine that causes nerve communication interference between the brain and the body. The resulting interference to the nervous system gradually causes malfunction of the tissues supplied by these spinal nerves, in this case, reproductive tissues.
Once a chiropractor confirms a vertebral subluxation, a proper course of corrective care is advised. As the nerve interference is corrected over time, proper communication between the brain and body is restored. This results in normal function and, in many cases, allows conception to occur naturally.
The best thing about chiropractic care for infertility issues is that it has no long or short-term side effects. There are no risky surgeries and no fertility drugs. For many, the result is exactly what they were looking for. Chiropractic is safe, effective and natural.
